RISE UP:

SHAPE EUROPE'S FUTURE

We are excited to announce the launch of Rise Up: Shape Europe’s Future - our second political education short course created for Polish women who are students in the UK.

Led by Polish Migrants Organise for Change (POMOC) and Shout Out UK, this free programme aims to empower young women to become active residents of the UK. The programme will equip them with the practical tools and knowledge they need to navigate the British political and labor systems to shape their and Europe’s future, as well as raise awareness about increasingly sophisticated disinformation methods.

Rise Up: Shape Europe’s Future will take place online (via Zoom) over three Thursdays, starting 15 April 2021, from 6pm to 8pm.

Rise Up will tackle practical yet critical information (see below for full programme), including:

  • Understanding the political system in the UK - and your role within it;

  • The basics of media and communications literacy;

  • Strategies for campaigning and contacting representatives

Participants will receive:

  • Information about the UK's political system and how to navigate it.

  • Tips on how to start your own campaign.

  • Media literacy skills.

  • Networking opportunities throughout the programme;

  • Opportunities to put skills into practice in the lead up to the local UK elections in May 2021;

  • Informative resources in various languages that can be taken back to their communities or shared on their social media;

  • A nurturing community that will continue to provide support after the programme.

The course is designed for people who:

  • Are from Poland and currently studying in the UK;

  • Identify as women, nonbinary or other marginalised genders;

  • Are interested in British politics and dedicated to continuing their activist or leadership development after the programme;

  • Have a good command of the English language;

We highly encourage participation from people who identify as LGBTQ+; Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME); Roma; people living with disabilities; or on low income.

To apply, contact us at info@pomoc.org.uk by 7 April 2021.

We recognise that women are pivotal to activating their communities and families. By helping them understand and exercise their rights, we are in turn helping to build a more inclusive and democratic society in the UK.
